Paths of Inclusion

This project, carried out within the Institute of Sports Sciences (ISSUL/SSP), Faculty of Social Sciences and Politics at the University of Lausanne, is part of the research "On the Paths to Inclusion" led by Anne Marcellini, in partnership with the RTS Archives. A team of sociologists studied over 300 films dating from 1956 to 2020, to share these images and spark discussions with groups affected by situations of disability.

University of Lausanne – Paths of Inclusion

This project was carried out at the Institute of Sport Sciences (ISSUL/SSP), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Lausanne. 'On the Paths of Inclusion' is a research project led by Anne Marcellini, in partnership with the Data and Archives service of RTS. A team of sociologists examined over 300 films from the RTS archives, produced between 1956 and 2020, in order to (re)discover fascinating stories in a participatory and inclusive spirit.

The objective was to create an online platform that catalogues video clips highlighting the disabilities present in today’s society. The vision was to raise public awareness of the realities faced by people with disabilities, promote inclusion, and foster a deeper understanding of their daily challenges.

What was our approach?

Technical method & design

We utilised data from Airtable to meet the client's needs, although this posed a technical challenge related to the permissiveness of the tool. In the design phase, we prioritised and clarified navigation between the different types of media (RTS archives, excerpts, etc.). We also integrated an interactive chatbot on the homepage, as well as a dynamic chapteringsystem in the YouTube and Vimeo videos. These features significantly enhance the user experience.

Results

Our solution fully meets the initial requirement: the platform allows users to consult the RTS archives, search for videos, and be guided by the chatbot. It thus provides an enhanced journey for discovering content.

Conclusion

The collaboration has proceeded in a very positive manner. The client expressed a great deal of satisfaction, and the relationship maintained with the Inclusion Paths team facilitated an optimal progress of the project. We are very pleased with the outcome and proud to have contributed to the enhancement of such an important subject.
